At Least I Come By It Honestly...
My mom and I are so alike.
During the power outage, I was over at Mark and Andra's on the phone with Mom. We were talking about the silly things we all do when the power's out:
Me: I stopped flipping light switches about an hour into it, but it's the other little things that are getting me.
Mom: Like what?
Me: Like trying to recharge batteries, for one. And last night, it was really, really cold, so I thought, "Hey! The Spa Blankie would feel awesome right now; I'll pop that into the microwave and warm right up!" Needless to say, that didn't work out to be such a good idea.
Mom: Why? Did it catch on fire?
Me: What? No no, the power was out.
Mom: Yeah...
Me: So no microwave.
Mom: OH! [laughing]
It cracks me up that "didn't work out to be such a good idea" might, in her world, equate to something catching on fire. Ah, me mum.
Tonight, I called her at midnight Eastern time to wish her a Happy New Year. We talked about her new puppy, Kavi, a lot, and then as we were winding down, she asked if I was heading to bed.
Me: Me? No, I'm going to stay up.
Mom: Really? Why?
Me: [surprised] Well....it's not midnight here yet.
Mom: OH! [laughing] You're right, it's not!
This is where I get my genetic code from, folks, right here. Fortunately, it's also from where I get a lot of my humor, compassion and love.
Happy New Year, Mom - Love you bunches. :-)
